Lesson 1: The Restoration (Question and Answer Style)

Posing questions and answering them, is another method of teaching and learning.

Who is God? (Acts 17:22-28)

  • God is our Loving Heavenly Father.
  • He wants to communicate with us, and we can communicate with Him through sincere prayer.
  • He has given us this experience on earth so we can learn and grow.
  • He has a plan for us to return to live in His presence, but in order to do so we need to be clean and pure.
  • Therefore to help us, he has sent His Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to atone for our sins.

How do we know about Jesus Christ? (Acts 10:34-43; Amos 3:7)

  • Heavenly Father Reveals His Gospel in Every Dispensation.
  • They learn of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by Revelation.
  • They in turn teach the gospel to others and testify of Jesus Christ as the Saviour and Redeemer.
  • They are also given the priesthood or the power and authority given to man to act in God's name for the salvation of His children.
  • The scriptures are writings of such prophets and is an evidence that God reveals his gospel in every dispensation.
  • Men are free to choose to believe the prophets and follow Jesus Christ.

So what did Jesus Do? (Mark 3:14-15; Ephesians 4:11-14; John 3:16-17; Luke 22:44)

  • The Saviour's Earthly Ministry.
  • Jesus Christ came to do the will of His Father, to redeem mankind for them to be saved in the kingdom of God.
  • He ordained the Twelve and organized his church.
  • He was crucified.

If we can all get personal communication with God, then why do we need a church, why do we need scriptures?

  • Principal offices in the church are spoken of by Paul in Ephesians 4:11-16, in which it is pointed out that the church is a means by which the saints become edified and progress towards the full measure of the stature of Christ.
  • Acts 2:47
  • 1 Corinthians 1:10-13
  • Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4:1-16

So? What happened later? (Galatians 1:6-7; 1 Corinthians 1:11-13; 1 John 2:18-19)

  • The Great Apostasy
  • There were contentions, change of doctrine, falling away.
  • Apostles were killed.
  • Authority lost.
  • All according to prophecy. (1 Timothy 4:1-12; 2 Timothy 3:1-8; 2 Timothy 4:3-4; Amos 8:11-12)

Now what? (Ephesians 4:5; Ephesians 1:10)

  • 2 Thessalonians 2:1-9; D&C 20:1-4; Acts 3:19-21; A of F 6
  • The Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Joseph Smith.
  • Joseph wanted to know which church was true.
  • Through James 1:5 he prayed to God and saw a vision.
  • He was then called to be a prophet of the LORD.
  • Priesthood was restored through Joseph by resurrected Peter, James and John.

Proof? (John 10:16; Ezekiel 37:15-17; Isaiah 29:4,11-18; Introduction; 3+8 Witnesses; Moroni 10:3-5)

  • The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ
  • The Book of Mormon is the stick of Joseph.
  • It is the voice from the dust.
  • It is another testament of Jesus Christ which Joseph translated by the gift of God.
